I watch as the bottle green waves crash against the browning sand, pebbles tumble down into the waves. Washed away to some where far. The water envelopes my bare feet, small pieces of crumbled seaweed brush against them. Waves pull back the water invading the sand, as it sweeps backwards the sun glistens down catching every angle. Creating soft glimmering ripples in the endless depth of blue. I see small ruffles of flocculent white floating across the fading blue sky. I feel the soft sand sticking to my feet, it squeezes between my toes scratching my supple skin. It crunches under me as I move slowly in the wind. The wind strokes my skin, it's wintry air inviting. A biting breeze blankets me in a jolting but refreshing way. As I stand rocking side to side I hear the piercing squawk of a seagull soaring in circles around my head. It's noise simmers down gradually leaving behind silence. The movement of the ocean begins to feel the empty space like lungs filling with air. Crashes immerse my ears but soon this sound is mixed with that of chattering children. Rushing around the beach hollering happily, they were exploding fireworks... Colourful and full of energy. I start to taste salt in my mouth as the direction of the wind changes. The tanginess filling my mouth like I had been drinking the whole ocean. The salt combines with the taste of tiny grains of sand, splinter sharply in my mouth making me squirm uneasily. My face squashing up unpleasantly at the taste and sensation. The foul taste is overpowered by a flowing sweetness trickling onto my tongue, a pink sugary substance floats through the air incasing my senses like a siren to a sailor. Hot pink flashes through my eyes and leaves me drooling... It's softness so tempting. I begin to not only taste but smell the salt traveling through the air like smoke from a fire. The smell of sizzling meat corrupts my nose, it leaves me begging for something toothsome. The saltiness is balanced my the smell of sugary goodness traveling down the beach. Not only do I smell food and sea but I start to smell the chemicals of oily sunscreen slathered on children, I smell pages of new books freshly printed and being read for the first time. I start to feel like the rest of the world means nothing. My future brings me no joy or stress, planning and worrying blows away in the wind. It separates itself from me. The beach makes me feel as if all that matters is that very moment standing there in the elements. Feeling all that is to be felt. I become someone new at the beach. I feel free at the beach ... I feel like a child once again as the bottle green waves crash against the browning sand.
